ABOUT TEM

WHAT WE DO

The Entrepreneurial Mindset (TEM) exists to build a thriving student community of entrepreneurship and intrapreneurship, connecting students across faculties with peers, industry professionals, and the broader entrepreneurial ecosystem. TEM focuses on Community, Hands-on skills, Industry connections and Action.

The Entrepreneurial Mindset is a key entrepreneurship student group on campus at the University of Manitoba. We foster a community of student entrepreneurs and help them get connected to local startups, business professionals, and get them exposure to real world experience in the community of entrepreneurship. We organize a variety of events and activities designed to nurture entrepreneurial talent. By organizing workshops, networking sessions, and challenges, TEM empowers students to develop entrepreneurial and intrapreneurial mindsets, equipping them with transferable skills and resources to drive impact both in launching ventures and within existing organizations. Whatever it is you are doing or have aspirations to do, TEM has you covered.

TEM is dedicated to providing opportunities for hands-on learning, practical skill-building, and innovation through events, meetups, and collaboration-focused activities. Whether you’re thinking of building a business or in the middle of doing so, we want you to come and show us your ideas. Get the word out at our networking events, meet new people and have some fun. Come and pitch your business at our various competitions throughout the year for your chance to win cash prizes and view entrepreneurship in a new perspective on our different forms or trips throughout the academic term.

Started in 2021, The Entrepreneurial Mindset was created on the basis that there was no student led group that was entrepreneurship based, and in a world where entrepreneurship is growing and growing, something like this was needed. TEM was later lost due to the effects of COVID-19, but restarted in 2025 by former TEM president, Vice-President & Director of Finance (Anthony Thériault, Rhéanne Morin and Todd DeGroot) the team grew the first year student group into an award winning platform that brought together a community of student entrepreneurs.

Style/Types of Events:

Host Speaker: Learn key entrepreneurial skills, from ideation and pitching to growth strategies and leadership.
Networking Sessions: Meet and collaborate with industry professionals, mentors, and like-minded students.
Challenges & Competitions: Apply your knowledge and creativity in real-world challenges to test and grow your abilities.
Meetups & Collaborative Projects: Join forces with others to work on exciting projects and ventures, developing transferable skills in a team setting.

Our 4 Major Events

We host a multitude of events like our annual start of the year “Trivia Night”, our mixers, and our innovation pitch competition in collaboration with YEN. You can see our majorflagship events below:

The Startup Crawl

The Startup Crawl is the first of two explorative events that happen within the TEM year. Students from the University of Manitoba meet at the Drake Centre in the morning and hop on a bus that takes them around Winnipeg visiting different startup businesses around the area. These businesses will be local to Winnipeg and Manitoba to really emphasize on the message of entrepreneurship. The day starts in the morning and runs for a full 7 hours where students get dropped off at the Drake Centre for a full day of entrepreneurship.

The Elevator Pitch (In an Elevator) Competition

The Elevator Pitch (In an Elevator) Competition started as a wild idea that stumbled into a very quick reality. Students apply to be a part of this one of a kind competition where they will have the chance to pitch their business in 60 seconds in an actual moving elevator. Two judges will be in the elevator with them to whom they will be pitching to. Students may pitch their own business or something they are planning to pursue, for their chance to win a portion of cash prizes.

The Trip

Over the winter term reading week, TEM decides to head out of Manitoba and into a new city, where students can explore entrepreneurship away from home. Previously, the team has headed out to Toronto for 4 days where students did some sight seeing, visited startups and corporations, took a day trip and got to learn away from the classroom. For years to come, TEM plans to continue this outside of school learning trip where students may view entrepreneurship not as a job, but a passion.

The Entrepreneurial Mindsets Entrepreneurship Awards Gala

In 2026, the TEM team noticed that there was a lack of resources and funding for student entrepreneurs, and realized that something needed to be done to help these people. In came the idea of the entrepreneurship awards gala, a cocktail style gala event where a select number of students would apply with their real life businesses to receive awards from TEM and supporting sponsors around Manitoba. Of all applicants, only a chosen number will advance to the day of the gala where they will pitch their business in 3 minutes to a room of hundreds of people for their chance to win thousands of dollars in cash prizes.
